This month, I’m sharing work in honor of mothers and motherhood. This one is for the mothers that hold our hands, whether they were at our birth or not.
I’ve had the privilege of receiving love from a wonderful mother as well as other women who poured into my life freely and earnestly. It’s likely why ‘Aunties’ feature a bit in my books. (I’ll introduce you to Auntie Tina later. She’s one of my favourite characters in my upcoming romantic suspense novel.)
Regardless of your experience with mothers, I hope you know that you are loved and seen and known by the One who loves us all.
Here’s “Welcome, my love”:
Tiny fingers
Folded in a soft glove
Scant tuft
Upon your tender head
You scarcely
Fill the crook of my arms
But you hold my heart
🦋
Before you arrived
My womb did not hold you
But I loved you
And spoke to you
And prayed for you
🦋
Now you have seen light
And I scarcely can contain
My delight
For this day
Is more precious with you in it
🦋
I marvel at every rung
You ascend
At every new skill
You learn with the rising sun
At the endless ocean
In which you will swim
Creating communities
In islands you forge
By the grace of God
🦋
Oh my darling
Welcome
